What are your LAX TENDENCIES?

Imagine coming back next season WITHOUT those annoying habits that always seem to hold you back.

  • You confidently take the left-hand lane when it opens up

  • You catch with your outside hand everywhere on the field

  • You throw accurate passes running full speed

  • Your shots go where you want them to

Whatever it is you TEND to do that always seems to cause you frustration or hold you back, soon can be a thing of the past…

#1) Identify Your Negative Tendencies:

  1. Self-Assessment: Think about your recent games and practices. What habits have you noticed that might be holding you back? Also watch film if you can, and take note of anything you see.

  2. Seek Feedback: If you're unsure, ask your coach or teammates for feedback. They can provide valuable insights into areas you might need to work on.

#2.) Make a plan:

  • A. Choose your tendency: Select one or two areas that you can work on independently

  • Maybe you need a wall, or a field, or a goal, or whatever it is, but you want to be able to put in work on your own time.

  • If you like, you can also buddy up for motivation, but make sure your buddy is as dedicated as you are, and you hold each other accountable to showing up.

  • B. Practice Regularly: Incorporate drills into your routine to work on these habits. Use a wall for stick work passing/catching drills, or practice shooting and dodging on a field with a goal.

  • C. Set SMART goals: Basically, you want to be able to track your progress, so setting goals you can actually measure over time.

Example: Work on the TENDENCY of avoiding your left hand:

  • SPECIFIC: Make a plan to work a ton on non-dominant hand stick work

  • MEASURABLE: How many hours days/per week will you work on this?

  • ATTAINABLE: Can you actually live up to this? Be realistic.

  • RELEVANT: Related to your tendency, which this is

  • TIMELY: Set yourself a check-in point. Ex) By X date, I will be able to catch X amount of ball with my left hand in 1minute. Something like that. This can be your “measurable” aspect as well,

COACHES Suggestion - Do this as a team activity!

Set up a Google form and ask your players to list their tendencies. Have them make an action plan of how they will try to work on it each week. Have them set a SMART goal around these tendencies. Check-in with them at a certain date to check progress.
