Team Bonding Activities: Check out this video to see each of these in action!

1) Chicken Machine

Equipment Needs: Long Rope (get at Home depot, Lowes, etc.)
Goal: To get the group from one side of the rope to the other. If you split into teams and make it a competition, then you can time each team. The team that gets through the machine without jamming it the fastest, wins!
Set up: 2 people (coaches or injured players etc) will control the machine (aka the rope). Split into 2 teams (or however many you want). 1 team goes at a time. The first team up lines up single file ready to run through the machine. On a coaches “go” it starts.
How to play:
The players are all the chickens that need to be counted by the machine (rope) in a manner that will not jam the machine.
- Once the machine starts, the rope can only count one chicken at a time for every rope spin.
- The machine jams if nobody enters the rope during a rotation, or if more than one chicken enters the counter during a spin.
- If the machine jams, the group must start over and the time continues.
**For a tie breaker or to make it more challenging, you can play “survivor mode”, where if that machine jams at all, that team it automatically out!

2) The Human Knot

Equipment Needs: Just your players!
Goal: Players will form a human knot and attempt to untangle themselves.
If doing it as a competition, the team that gets untangled the fastest wins!
Set up: Players stand in a circle and place one hand in the middle. Have them grab another player’s hand across from them. Then, grab a different player’s hand with their other hand.
How to play:
Have the group try to untangle themselves. Hands can turn while holding to move to a comfortable position, but they CANNOT let go at all! For safety, don’t interlock fingers, and be aware of each other while twisting and turning. Players may also attempt to climb over or duck under hands/arms, but do so with caution!!

3) Hula Hoop Relay

Equipment Needs: 1 hulu hoop per team. We did 2 teams. Typically get at 5 Below or a dollar store, etc.
Goal: To get the hula hoop all the way around the circle without letting go of each other's hands.
Set up: Players hold hand in a circle with the hulu hoop starting between
their arms.
How to play: On the whistle, have the player step through the hoop and then slide it to the next player. They can choose to use whatever method, as long as they do not let go of each other’s hands. Repeat until the hoop makes it back to the first player, and that teams wins!

4) Rock, Tree, Bridge

Equipment Needs: Just your players and maybe some cones for start and finish line.
Goal: First Team to get to the other side, wins.
Set up: Divide into teams. In this case we made a lot of teams of 3, but you can make the teams whatever side you want. Have a starting point and an end point, maybe about 30 yards apart, but up to you.
How to play:
- When the whistle blows to start, the fist player runs 2 steps out and is a “rock”. The rock hunches down into a ball.
- After that, that next player has to JUMP over the rock, run 2 steps, and then become a tree. The tree stands tall.
- The next player then has to JUMP over the rock, RUN AROUND the tree, take 2 more steps forward, and become a bridge. The bridge gets into a downdog yoga position for this.
- The next player, JUMPS over the rock, RUNS AROUND the tree, CRAWLS under the bridge, and then becomes a rock.
- This sequence continues until all players in line have gone. Once each player in line has gone, the original player to start the game has to run through all the obsticles ahead in the same way listed above.
- THE WINNER is the team that gets to the opposite side first!
**Do not allow more than 2-3 steps to be taken between each rock, tree, and bridge!

5) Red Light, Green Light

Equipment Needs: Just your players and maybe some cones for start and finish line.
Goal: First player to get to the other side wins.
Set up: All players on the line ready to go.
How to play: When the coach says “Green Light”, players can run as fast as they can. When coach says “Red Light”, they must stop within a step or 2 otherwise
they are disqualified. The coach continues saying “Red Light” and “Green Light” while players try to advance .
